Several buildings, a wide site, or one spot where it really matters: tell us about the project. We look at the geometry and tell you which quality level it calls for and what follows from that for the cameras.
You do not have to know any of them exactly. But the clearer these three points are, the more concretely we can answer, and the less we have to ask afterwards.
Where exactly should the camera be looking? At the gate, the till, the yard, the entrance. Do not ask yourself where the camera should hang, but where something happens. Every one of those places gets its own number, because the same camera reaches a different pixel density at the gate than at the fence behind it.
Should the recording show that anything is moving at all? Should it let you tell people, vehicles and animals apart? Or should it let you verify known persons? Those are three different tasks. The standard names 20 px/m for Overview, 80 px/m for Discern and 500 px/m for Validate.
How far away is the spot, and how high should the camera hang? An estimate is enough for now. Together the two give the slant distance, the real line of sight, and that is always longer than the walk across the site plan. This is exactly where many plans come apart.
